The Intimate Opera Company is in our thirteenth season of sharing the splendor of opera in intimate settings.

For the first time Conductor and Music Director Kristof Van Gryspeer and Stage Director Stephanie Vlahos will be collaborating for our April 2010 production of Puccini's Tosca. This production will be fully staged, performed in English with orchestra. Kristof, who was a Fulbright scholar from Belgium, with a doctorate and two masters degrees in orchestral conducting and keyboard collaborative arts from USC, is also Music Director for Songfest. Stephanie Vlahos is Director of Full Circle Opera at Los Angeles County High School for the Arts and this season will also direct scenes for the Young Artists Program at Los Angeles Opera and CSU Long Beach. Visit our home page for performance and ticket information.

Each season The Intimate Opera Company:

  • Produces one fully staged opera, with sets, costumes and chamber orchestra.
  • Conducts a Youth Vocal Competition in the fall, with four different age categories, ranging from 8 - 25 years, culminating in a concert of finalists at the Richard Nixon Library and Birthplace in Yorba Linda and the presentation of cash awards.
  • Administers a Summer Vocal Workshop. This 2-week intensive program introduces young artists to opera scene preparation, stage technique, Alexander technique, Diction in Italian, French and German, Master Classes, solo repertoire, individual coachings, a solo recital performance, and an opera scenes performance with string ensemble.

The Intimate Opera Company is enjoying our fifth season as the opera company in residence at Westminster Gardens, a retirement community in Duarte. This partnership involves the use of a 200-seat theater, Packard Hall, on Westminster Gardens' campus, for rehearsal purposes. No other opera company can boast they rehearse in the very theater in which they open all of their shows!

We are pleased to announce our new Pasadena venue: the stunning Piazza Ballroom at the Sheraton Hotel.

Our April 2009 production of Tosca is made possible in part by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, The Pasadena Arts League, and the State Farm Companies Foundation.
