Welcome to the Intimate Opera Company!
As I write, I am struck by the wonders of "cyber-space," by the ability to converse, if you will, with you, the person who is now exploring the Intimate Opera Company website. Perhaps you're "surfing the net," interested in opera and checking out what groups come up on your search engine. Or perhaps I've met you after one of our performances and you've looked up our website to learn more about our upcoming season. Or you're a singer who's looking for opportunities to perform. Or you might even be that rare person who's looking for a local arts organization with whom you'd like to invest a portion of your time, your talents, and your finances. Whoever you are and however you got here, I'm glad you found us!
The Intimate Opera Company is unique in Southern California. While we started out in 1995 as a "let's-rent-the-barn-and-put-on-a-show" organization, we've grown to become a well-respected opera company. From day one, the Board decided to perform all our fully staged productions in English, to make opera more immediately accessible and thereby encourage appreciation of the art form. The Founding Members, each professional singers in their own right, originally banded together because we saw a lack of performance opportunities for ourselves and other local artists. Each time we hold auditions, we are impressed with the depth of talent available in Southern California. We seek to build a repertory company, to fashion a season of high quality productions which utilize the talents of artists who deserve to perform main stage roles but who - for a myriad of reasons - have not yet had their "big break."
There is something to be said for the rapport that occurs when a group of artists - a repertory company - performs together over a period of time. Magic consistently happens on stage. Our audience senses the depth of the relationships that have been nurtured between the cast members, perceives a professional friendship and mutual respect that can best grow in a supportive, repertory environment.
So! If you want to witness some of the best talent and entertainment available, in exciting, innovative productions, come to one of our upcoming performances. Join us for a fully staged operatic production or enjoy opera favorites in a more intimate setting at one of our gala concerts.
