Intimate Opera

“The splendor of opera in an intimate setting.”

The Mission of The Intimate Opera Company is two-fold:

To create beautifully rendered operas for music lovers in the San Gabriel Valley, and to offer performance opportunities for emerging artists.

The Intimate Opera Company brings the brilliance of the art form to the community with fully-staged operas in English with chamber orchestra. We encourage young talent to develop their gifts through our annual Youth Vocal Competition and Summer Vocal Workshop.

Conductor Kristof Van Gryspeer and Stage Director Mark Lamanna bring skill and artistry to the stage. Teaming them up with the brightest of SoCal's emerging artists, they focus on making great music and in breathing new life into the characters - a recipe for exciting theater!

The Intimate Opera Company is proud to present a thrilling adaptation of a classic opera: La Tragédie de Carmen. In 1983, the English stage director Peter Brook, along with composer Marius Constant and playwright Jean-Claude Carrière, re-mastered George Bizet's Carmen, creating an intimate-and-intense eighty-minute opera for four singers and fourteen-piece orchestra. Our production features a stellar cast: mezzo-soprano Geeta Novotny as Carmen, tenor Christopher Campbell as Don Jose, soprano Susan Kane as Micaela, and baritone James Martin Schaefer as Escamillo. The critically-acclaimed team of conductor Kristof Van Gryspeer and stage director Mark Lamanna head up this powerful production.
